The annual Ulster GAA Cúchulainn Cup took place at the Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt. This initiative aims to give young people the opportunity to engage with each other, and find out more about GAA. Taking part in the boys’ competition for the first time were schools from Antrim and Ballymoney, joined by schools from Belfast and Enniskillen.
In preparation for the Cup Blitz, schools were given “GAA Taster Sessions” in which beginners were taught the basic skills of Gaelic Football and Hurling. Over 300 Year 11 boys had the opportunity to sample what the GAA has to offer and CIC had 4 pupils selected for the 15-man Antrim squad: Samuel Moffett, Jack Gray, Shane Macauley and Padraig Rice. All of the boys played brilliantly with Sam and Jack finding themselves on the scoreboard.
After a very enjoyable day of games, the first time participants Ballymoney Cúchulainns emerged successful in the Boys Cup with Antrim coming in a very close second. Well done lads!
